Team teaching (or assisting one another) works well
because there is someone who has been watching how a class has been taught
and can easily fill in as a substitute. Substituting should be minimal
- maybe once a year. The team should decide before the first day of class
how they will cover for one another. A team may be designed in three
ways
The first way is when all three periods look
similar except the material or content is scaled up or down to meet
the needs of the various grade levels (Exhibit A). This style of teaching
allows for the team to work individually on their classes or all together.
The team chooses their plan. One parent/teacher could prepare the lesson
for the whole day every third Friday that the CLASS DAY Co-Op meets
making sure that everyone on the team is participating in the classroom
two out of three periods each time.
The second way is when a parent/teacher chooses
to teach one period and assist in another (Exhibit B). This works well
for those who know their subject fairly well and so their preparation
time is not extensive. Research is not so necessary. All periods/classes
may be quite different from one another.
The third way is when there are only two
periods, which are similar (Exhibit C). This smaller team still provides
one teacher and one assistant. Both parents may work together in the
way they see fit. One may plan one week while the other assists and
then next time they reverse roles. Or, one teacher may feel comfortable
in the lead teacher role and the other may feel comfortable as an assistant
the whole year.

The numbers after the class name indicate
grade levels.
All the teachers and assistants are working for two out
of the three periods.
* ac = teacher "a" and teacher "c" are
assigned to period 1.
* bc = teacher "b" and teacher "c" are assigned to
period 2.
* ab = teacher "a" and teacher "b" are assigned to
period 3.
